Description of the main teaching and learning methods used and methods of evaluation of knowledge and skills students

Courses in Ivano- Frankivsk National Medical University is carried out in the following forms:

training sessions ;

individual tasks ;

independent work of students;

practical training ;

control measures.

1) The main types of classes :

- Lecture ;

- Laboratory , practical , seminar , individual training;

- Consultation .

Lecture – the main form of instruction , based on theoretical material. Typically, the lecture is part of a lecture course that covers the basic theoretical material particular or more topics of discipline . Subjects lecture course is determined by the working curriculum.

Lecture as a form of educational process has a number of inherent features , such as:

- provides an integrated and logical coverage of the main provisions of the discipline ;

- equips students study methodology of science;

-Better and better than other forms of educational process, compensates for wear or lack of modern textbooks ;

- operative familiar with the latest scientific data ;

, combines training in education ;

- directs students to independent work and defines its main areas ;

- acts as a powerful motivational impetus to the study subjects.

Perhaps reading some lectures on issues relating to this discipline, but not covered by the curriculum. These lectures are conducted by leading academics and professionals to students and staff individually allotted time.

Lectures are held lecturers – professors and associate professors ( lecturers ) IFNMU , as well as leading scientists and experts invited to give lectures.

Lectures are conducted in specially equipped rooms – rooms for one or more academic student groups.

Lecturer in charge read lectures , is required before the start of the relevant semester to submit to the Department (subject or cyclic commission ) composed his lecture notes (the author’s textbooks ), performance objectives for total control , the curriculum and the program for this discipline .

The lecturer , who first claimed to lecture at may be required to head of the department ( the head of the subject or cyclic Commission) to conduct mock lectures featuring faculty and academic staff of the department.

The lecturer is obliged to stick to a training program on topics of lectures, but is not limited to matters of interpretation of educational material, forms and means of bringing it to students.
Laboratory work

Laboratory work – a form of instruction in which the student is under the guidance of a supervisor conduct experiments or simulation experiments investigate the practical confirmation of certain theoretical positions of Discipline , to obtain practical experience working with complex equipment , equipment, computers, instrumentation , experimental technique research in a particular subject area.

Laboratory classes are conducted in specially equipped training labs using equipment adapted to the educational process (laboratory models , settings , etc.). In some cases, laboratory studies can be conducted in a real professional environment (eg, at school, at work, in research laboratories ). Laboratory work is conducted with the students , whose number does not exceed half of the academic group.

The list of topics is determined by laboratory work curriculum subjects . Replacement laboratory other types of studies are generally not allowed.

Laboratory work includes conducting ongoing monitoring of preparedness of students in a particular laboratory work , assignments theme classes, individual design statement with the work and its defense in front of the teacher.

Perform laboratory work is assessed by the teacher. The final score is in the journal of laboratory work . Final estimates obtained by the student laboratory work are counted off for the final module assessment of discipline.

Workshop – a form of instruction in which the teacher organizes a detailed study of some theoretical propositions discipline and the skills of its applications by individual student performance of various tasks.

Practical classes are taught in the classroom or teaching laboratory with the necessary technical facilities, computers. Workshop held with students , the number of which does not exceed half of the academic group.

The list of topics is determined by practical exercises working curriculum subjects . Conducting practical classes based on pre- prepared methodological materials tests to identify the degree of mastering the necessary theoretical propositions set tasks of varying complexity for solving their students in the classroom .

These teaching tools are prepared teacher entrusted with the workshops , in consultation with the lecturer of this discipline.

Workshop includes preliminary control of knowledge and skills of students , the teacher setting the general problem and discussing it with students , solving problems from their discussion, solving control tasks , verification , evaluation .

Class of independent work during practical and laboratory classes may be implemented in the following types of work :

of learning – and additional literature

acquaintance with standard materials, descriptions of appropriate equipment ,

View demonstration experiments using video and computer equipment,

excursions , meetings with scientists and workers in the sector ,

- Execution of tasks

- Business ( role playing ) game

performance , teaching and research , followed by discussion of the experimental results ,

- solving situational problems,

- interpretation of the results of laboratory work with an individual design statement and its protection of the teacher,

- completing workbooks for laboratory (practical) sessions.

The individual nature of the work promotes student autonomy and assimilation of knowledge and the formation of skills in the performance of relevant practical work.

The nature and distribution of independent classroom work is defined departments should be developed systematically . He is definitely up of guidelines for laboratory (practical) sessions.

Estimates obtained for individual student workshops, counted off for a final assessment of this discipline.


Seminars – a form of instruction in which the teacher organizes the discussion around certain topics in which students prepare theses based on individual assignments (essays ).

Seminars are held in classrooms or classrooms to one academic group.

The list of topics is determined by the working seminars curriculum subjects .

At every teacher workshops estimates prepared by students from different disciplines , their performances, active in debate , ability to articulate and defend their position and so on. The total score for each of seminars entered in the appropriate log.

The main functions of the seminar ( in order of priority ):

1.Navchalno cognitive – consolidation , expansion, deepening the knowledge gained ia lectures and during independent work.

2.Navchalna – a school of public speaking , developing skills of selection and compile information .

3.Sponukalna – motivation based on analysis of the preparation for the more active and purposeful work : ‘

4.Vyhovna – formation of belief and conviction , raising the autonomy , courage and scientific research.

5.Kontrolyuyucha – monitoring the level of knowledge and quality of independent work. Among all kinds of seminars provides the implementation of the most creative independence of students creative workshop during which the teacher organizes debates , press conferences , debates, public defense of the essay.

These student assessment for individual workshops counted off for a final assessment of this discipline.

Extracurricular Activities

These optional classes, organized to deepen and broaden the knowledge of the individual courses, topics and issues according to the wishes and interests of students. Extracurricular Activities are additional to the basic body of knowledge , which is defined curriculum and syllabus.
Study tour

It is a form of academic work , during which students come to the location of the objects under study , to directly examine them. This tour allows you to combine the learning process of life for directly introducing students to the objects and phenomena of the environment. The system performs the following study tour didactic function:

, implements the principle of clarity of instruction;

- increase the level of scientific education and strengthen its relationship with life and practice;

- expanding technological horizons of the students;

- plays a significant role in career guidance high school.

Role play

This is creating a situation of choice and decision , which reproduced the conditions close to reality. It provides for the following roles of participants, which allow to understand , experience and learn new functions. The game has incorporated a specific event or phenomenon to be modeling, and allowed assignment of playing time to any period ( present, past, future). Typically, a business game – a model segment future careers of students. This imitation of administrative, research, teaching real activity teachers, specific institution.

The advantage of business games is that they combine theory and practice, helping to create professional knowledge and practical skills. Games raise interest in the subject being studied , as they are accompanied by positive emotions.

Methods of activating and intensifying training.

In order to enhance and intensify the training provides:

computerization of educational process;

test control of student learning ;

improvement of forms and methods of independent work.
Individual training session conducted with individual students to enhance their preparation and disclosure of personal creativity.

Individual training sessions are organized by individual schedule based on the individual student’s curriculum and may include part or all of sessions with one or more subjects, and in some cases – the full amount of classes for specific educational or skill level .

Types of individual classes , their size, form and methods of forms and methods of current and final (except for state certification ) defines an individual curriculum of the student.

Counseling – a form of instruction in which the student receives a response from the teacher specific questions or to explain certain theoretical positions or aspects of their practical application.

Advice can be provided to an individual or group of students , depending on whether the teacher advises students on issues related to the execution of individual tasks, or theoretical issues of discipline .

The amount of time allotted to the teacher for consultation on specific disciplines defined curriculum.

2 ) Individual task

Individual tasks on specific subjects performed independently by student counseling teacher.

There may be cases of execution of complex multi- subject students.

3) Independent work of students

Independent work of students is the primary means of mastering the learning material at any time , free from mandatory training sessions. Teaching time allotted for independent student work , regulated work curriculum and is at least 1/3 and not more than 2 /3 of the total student study time allotted for the study of a particular discipline. The content of individual student work on a specific discipline is defined curriculum subjects , teaching materials , tasks and guidance of the teacher.

Independent work of students through a system of educational and instructional facilities provided for the study of a particular discipline: textbooks, and manuals, lecture notes lecturer, workshop and more.

Teaching materials for self-study students provide the possibility of self-control on the part of the student. For self-study students are also encouraged to relevant scientific and professional monographic and periodical literature.

Independent work of students on the learning of specific subjects can be performed at a library, classrooms , computer rooms ( laboratories ) , as well as outside the classroom setting.

Where necessary, this work is performed according to a predefined schedule that guarantees the individual right of access to student teaching tools. Figure communicated to the students at the beginning of the semester.

The organization of independent work using sophisticated equipment or machinery , complex systems of access to information ( eg, computer databases, computer-aided design , etc. ) provides the opportunity to obtain the necessary advice or assistance from an expert.

4) Practical training

Practical training is a mandatory component of the educational and training program to gain qualification and aims at the acquisition of student skills and abilities .

Practical training is conducted in a professional activity under organizational guidance of the teacher.

According to the Law of Ukraine ” On Higher Education” from 17.01.2002, № 2984-III , “On innovation ” from 04.07.2002 № 40 -V, professionals state classifications DK 003-95 , State Classification of Economic Activities DK 009-96 , the complex regulations for the development of components of higher education (Appendix № 1 to the Order of the Ministry of Ukraine of 31.07.98 , the number 285 as amended , which entered the order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine from 05.03.2001 , the № 28- p) and introduced new terms , including:

credit- modular system of educational process ( KMSONP ) – a model of the educational process , based on a combination of two components: loans ( credits education units ), and modular technology education and covers the content , forms and means of educational process, forms of control student learning activities in process of classroom and self-study and as his knowledge and skills

training course consists of several credit scoring , the number of which is determined by the content and form of the educational process .

Credit scoring – in accordance with the order of MES of Ukraine ( 23.01.2004 , № 48) – is a measure of workload learning module discipline.

module – official , completed the program for professional training (academic discipline attestation ) that carried out by means of student learning activities ( lectures, workshops , laboratories, seminars and private lessons , independent work practices , control measures ). The module is part of the total educational information , akin to the forms and types of educational and research activities of the student.

Content module – a system of training elements logically completed part of the theoretical and practical teaching material that meets certain object of study , the content of the module sections form of discipline , academic discipline is formed as a set of closely related structural modules provided for learning within given period of study.
Control measures

Control measures include current and final evaluation .

Evaluation – is one of the final stages of student learning activities and determine the success of training . The procedure and method of evaluation significantly affect the final results , the possibility of analysis and statistical reliability of estimates. Therefore, when evaluating preferred standardized methods : testing, structured written work , structured according to a control procedure in terms of practical skills that are close to reality. In content it is necessary to assess the level of formation of skills and habits that are defined in the educational qualification and characterization reflects the curriculum relevant discipline.

Current control is carried out during practical laboratory and seminar sessions and aims to test the level of preparedness of students to perform a specific job. The form of the current control during the training sessions and evaluation system of knowledge defined by the appropriate Department (subject or cyclic commission ).

Assessment for the module is defined as a sum of the current training and assessment of the final module control and is expressed by multi (200 points) scale.

Assessment of the discipline is set as the average of the scores of all modules that are structured discipline.

ECTS system of educational process includes:

- The study subjects ( internship ) , and structured into modules as documented logically completed part of the curriculum implemented appropriate forms of educational process and end the final module control ;

- Introduction of ECTS credits credits as a unit of measure of student workload required for learning discipline ;

Credit (Credit) includes all types of student work provided for in the approved individual plan : auditorium , independent , preparation for state certification , preparation of integrated licensing examinations “Step 1″ and ” Step 2″, practically oriented state exam, practical , performance coursework and so on. One ECTS credit is 30 hours for “General Medicine “, ” Pediatrics ” and ” Dentistry ” and 36 hours – for specialty “Pharmacy” .

- Lack of training process schedule examinations as supervised learning students each module of the discipline ;

- Use grading scale ECTS, which is a rating and converted into a system of Ukraine adopted in the evaluation of knowledge and skills for students entering in addition to its international diploma (Diploma supplement).

Evaluation module

Assessment for the module is defined as a sum of current educational activities ( in points) and evaluation of the final module control (in points) , which is proposed in the assessment of theoretical knowledge and practical skills according to the lists specified discipline program .

The maximum number of points that a student can gain by studying each module is 200 , including the current educational activity – 120 points , the results of the final module control – 80 points. Thus, elected by the ratio between the evaluation of current educational activities and final module control 60% to 40%.

Evaluation of current training activities

In evaluating the practical mastering each topic ( seminar ) class module the student exhibited by multi- scale assessment using accepted and approved by the university committee methodic evaluation criteria for the appropriate discipline. This takes into account all types of work, provided methodological development for the practical study of the topic ( seminars, laboratory ) classes.

The weight of each practical topics (seminars ) classes within a module must be the same , but it may be different for different modules of a subject and determined the number of practical topics (seminars ) classes in the module.

Method of assessment of current educational activities should be standardized and include control of theoretical and practical training.

The maximum number of points that can be collected by the student for the current academic activities in a module is calculated by multiplying the number of points corresponding to the maximum point for practical ( Seminar ) classes, the number of topics of practical (seminars ) classes in the module with the addition of scores for individual independent work student, but must not exceed 120 points .

The maximum score for the practical ( Seminar ) classes in the module is calculated by dividing 120 by the number of practical points (seminars ) lessons in this module , and the practical (seminar ) class, which laid out a working curriculum subjects for the final module control currently no calculation included.

The minimum number of points you must score a student for admission to the final module control or offset is calculated by multiplying the number of points corresponding minimal positive point for practical ( Seminar ) classes on practical number of topics (seminars ) classes in the module , and the practical ( seminars ) classes that are designated working curriculum of courses for the final module control is currently not included in the calculation .

The minimum score for a positive practice (seminar ) class is calculated at the rate of at least 50 % of the maximum score for the practical ( Seminar ) classes in the module (depending on how you defined the typical curriculum subjects ).

Student to practice (seminar ) session can be evaluated according to the level of knowledge he displayed from 0 points to the maximum score for that class.

Students are given the opportunity to retake unsatisfactory current estimates for two-week period after receiving the current unsatisfactory evaluations, but not later than the date of the final module control through consultation and practical vidrobok (seminars ) sessions on the rules approved at the meeting of methodical department.

Students, who had to have passes classroom training sessions, Dean permitted to work no more than the monthly amount of classes according to the approved schedule.

Practical (seminar ) classes missed without good cause , with the permission of the dean’s office to be worked out during process 2-week period ( 1 month or for a pair of classes ), the date of admission to the day of final testing.

Vidrobka missed practice ( seminar ) exercises carried out by appointment only students according to approved schedule vidrobok department.

If a student for no reason not worked in 2-week ( month ) period missed for classroom lessons , issues a permit for such vidrobku student head of the department decided to give the final module control .

Question permission to practice a student of classes missed after the date of the final module control group , Dean decided only . Adoption of the Department of vidrobok without permission of the dean is not allowed.

Missed lectures tested student on the rules approved at the meeting of methodical department.

Considered to be valid reasons for skipping the reason documented ( certificate of illness issued Diagnostic Center University Hospital , a statement signed by the dean, dean order , etc.). In the absence of the student above mentioned documents , the reason for admission is considered disrespectful .

Evaluation of individual self-study student

Scores for individual students’ independent work awarded to the student only upon their successful execution.

The number of points accrued by different types of individual self-study student, depending on their scope and importance and regulated working curriculum of the discipline, but should not exceed 12 points. They are added to the total points collected by the student for the current academic activities.

Evaluation of independent testing work ( SPM ) students

Independent testing work of students, which provides a working curriculum of subjects evaluated at the appropriate practice (seminar ) session, or on the final module control with optional mapping procedure SPM control in the work program of discipline.

6.5. The final module control

The final module control is carried out after the completion of all topics module on the last or the last two sessions of the module according to schedule .

The final module control based on the ” Details of the final module control” students which visited all the prescribed curriculum of courses for classroom training sessions and scored when studied module is not less than the minimum number of points.

The form of the final module control must be standardized and include control of theoretical and practical training.

Schedule of evaluation criteria and the final module control should be reflected in the work study program of discipline and communicated to students at the beginning of the module .

The maximum number of points that a student can collect in the preparation of the final module control is 80.

The final module control is passed if the student scored at least 50 points.

Students who do not pass the final module control have the right to retake a maximum of two times : first – within 10 days after completion of the module the teacher appointed by the Chair, the second – the commission appointed by the Head of the Department , within 10 days after the first re- assembly and during the winter holiday period , no later than the day of the start of classes in the spring semester , in the spring semester no later than two weeks after the semester 1-5 courses in specialties ” Medicine” and ” Pediatrics” and 1-4 courses in « Dentistry “and ” Pharmacy ” .

Within this period, after the third year provided for assembling integrated licensing examination “Step 1 “.

Charts pereskladan final module control, both primary and commissions, departments submitted to the dean for two weeks before the final compilation of student testing.

Students who have not appeared in the final module control, or to retake without good cause shall be deemed to have received a failing grade .

Students who have received throughout the semester over two unsatisfactory evaluations from different disciplines, all of which are completed or twice (once to the teacher , the second – the Commission ) are not peresklaly final module control, deductible from the University (Order of MES of Ukraine № 161 from 02.06.1993 year “On approval of the organization of the educational process in higher education “).

Positive evaluation of the student in the preparation of the final module control not pereskladayetsya .

6.6. test

According to the typical curriculum for a number of disciplines, all of which are carried out in accordance with the credit-modular system of educational process , a form of knowledge is the final control test.

Credit – a form of total control , which is to assess the mastering academic material solely on the basis of the performance of certain types of work on practical seminars and laboratory classes (order of MES of Ukraine from 02.06.1993 , № 161 “On approval of the organization of the educational process in higher education “).

6.7. Evaluation of

Evaluation subjects exposed only to students who have completed all modules in the discipline .

The student , if required by the curriculum , can obtain an estimate of the discipline “Passed” .

Determination of the number of points that the student entered the discipline .

The number of points scored by a student in the discipline , is defined as the average number of points from all modules discipline (the sum of scores for all modules divided by the number of modules discipline).

Objectivity of assessment of learning activities of students is tested by statistical methods (correlation coefficient between the current progress and results of the final module control).

Ranking by assigning ratings “A”, “B”, “C”, “D”, “E” is held for the students of the course enrolled in one specialty , and successfully completed the study subjects.

Estimates of discipline FX, F (« 2 (unsatisfactory )”) are set to students who have not passed at least one module in the discipline after completion of the study .

Students who have received throughout the semester over two unsatisfactory ratings in subjects with deductible University ( Science of Ukraine decree № 161 of 02.06.1993 “On approval of the organization of the educational process in higher education “).

Score FX assigned to students who score a minimum number of points for the current academic activities but who are not enrolled in the final module control .

Evaluation of F is assigned to students who have attended all sessions for classroom module , but do not meet the minimum number of points for the current academic activities and is not admitted to the final module control .

Based on the ranking of the curator (Curator ) ECTS ranking is drawn up , signed by the dean or deans of faculties and curator or curators ECTS faculty for this specialty .

On the basis of the Protocol Department Ranking fills Competitive exam – roll of discipline, which returns to the dean during process week after the receipt of the Protocol ranking. The results of ranking students in the discipline introduced in the ” Journals of visits and student achievement ” ( f. EH-1 ), ” Journal of the success of students in the discipline ” ( f. EH- 2), an individual curriculum for students and Educational cards students.
